<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a platen cleaning device, cleaning a platen roller simultaneously with printing operation, and surely preventing printing failure caused by staining of the platen roller. <P>SOLUTION: The platen cleaning device comprises: an abutment part 21 made from high penetration material, and abutting on a surface of the platen roller 11 over an approximately whole area in a width direction at a portion other than a portion where a thermal head 12 faces the platen roller 11; and a support part 23 supplying cleaning liquid to the abutment part 21.
