PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a user to easily grasp the state of an image forming apparatus. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus allows the user to input a message capable of being optionally set by the user and the relation between the message capable of being optionally set by the user and state information, and also allows a storage section 11 to store the message capable of being optionally set by the user and the relation between the message and the state information. When a detecting section 23 detects the state of the image forming apparatus 1, the state information stored in the storage section 11 in advance, the message inputted by the user and stored in the storage section 11 and the relation between the message and the state information are referenced to select the message associated with the state information indicating the state of the image forming apparatus 1 detected by the detecting section 23 and to transmit the selected message to a client device 2.
