PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an occurrence of a zero-cross shock when output torque of an engine is reversed in a down-shift. SOLUTION: This torque control device of the engine 1 is provided for transmitting motive power to the automatic transmission 2 side via a torque converter 3, and has: a target engine torque determining part 51 determining target engine torque; an engine control part 53 outputting the target engine torque by controlling the engine; and a target engine torque correction part 52 correcting the target engine torque. The target engine torque correction part 52 corrects the target engine torque by determining a correction quantity for increasing the target engine torque for maintaining an output torque in a normal torque in the down-shift when the output torque of the engine 1 is the normal torque when starting the down-shift. The engine control part 53 controls the engine based on the target engine torque after a correction so that the output torque is not reversed to an inverse torque from the normal torque.
