PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the time required for producing a multi-index display screen. SOLUTION: Regarding moving image data of a plurality of scenes and representative image data indicating a representative image of the moving image data of the plurality of scenes, from a recording medium recording thereon the moving image data of one scene and then representative image data of the moving image data, the representative image data of one of the two continuous scenes are played back; data of a top screen in the moving image data of the other scene are selected and played back; a representative image of the one scene is produced, based on the representative image data of the one scene; and a representative image of the other scene is produced using the data of the top screen in the moving image data of the other scene, thereby reducing by half the operations that makes a pickup to seek the recording position of the next representative image, each time one representative image is played back.
