PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an image projector by which enlargement of a color reproducing region, which is not achieved only by separation and synthesis of colors, is achieved, by which color unevenness is scarcely produced on a projected image, and by which the projected image with excellent picture quality is obtained. SOLUTION: The image projector has: first, second, and third image display elements controlled based on image signals; an illumination optical system including a color separation optical system to make flux of light emitted from a light source means incident on the first, second, and third image display elements; and a projection optical system to project the flux of light from the first, second, and third image display elements on a projection surface. The illumination optical system has a color correction filter in an optical path between the light source means and the color separation optical system, the color correction filter has a transmittance of light with a specified wavelength of <60%, an average transmittance of a wavelength band including a complementary color component of the specified wavelength is in the range of 70-90%, and when white is to be displayed, a ratio of quantity of light illuminating the first, second, and third image display elements is adequately set.
