PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To check whether a workpiece exists in a magnetic grabber. SOLUTION: The magnetic grabber is provided with: a housing 16 arranged on a housing bottom part 17 having a surface 18 facing the workpiece 19 to be grabbed; a magnetic piston 21 arranged for the housing 16; and connection parts 31, 27 assigned to the magnetic piston 21 for a driving fluid for moving the magnetic piston 21. The magnetic piston 21 receives a first operating pressure, moves to an operation setting position 36 and moves on a housing bottom part 17 or near it. The magnetic piston 21 is moved to a static setting position 37 by a second operating pressure and positioned apart from the housing bottom part 17. In the magnetic grabber, a detection device 41 is arranged in or above the housing 16, and the detection device detects whether the workpiece 19 is held in an end part side face 18 of the housing 16 or the workpiece 19 does not exist.
