PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composition including at least one silicone-containing component, at least one hydrophilic component, a high molecular weight hydrophilic polymer and at least one diluent having an alpha value of between about 0.05 to about 1 and a given Hansen solubility parameter or aδp value of less than about 10, the composition forming a transparent solution at a selected temperature. SOLUTION: The composition can be used for forming a transparent article such as a contact lens, and comprises the silicone-containing component, the hydrophilic component, the high molecular weight hydrophilic polymer, and the diluent having the alpha value of between about 0.05 to about 1 and the Hansen solubility parameter of less than about 10.
