摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a constant velocity joint reduced machining time in machining processes by reducing post-machining after forging, improved in yield, reduced in manufacturing costs, and capable of obtaining a necessary area on a spherical inner surface of the constant velocity joint outer ring to avoiding problems such as deficiency in strength and necessity of post-machining without causing deterioration in precision of profile due to protrusion of excess material, etc., a method for manufacturing a constant velocity joint, a rough-shaped outer ring material of a constant velocity joint, and a constant velocity joint outer ring. SOLUTION: The outer ring is made of a carbon steel for machine structural use. The whole inside surface of a cup portion is finished by cold forging. A slit groove Sm is formed on an inside diameter spherical surface 2a of the outer ring along the axial direction. A width dimension S1 of the slit groove Sm is in the range of 5 to 30% with respect to a maximum width dimension S2 of the inside diameter spherical surface 2a between adjacent track grooves 3, 3 in the circumferential direction.
