PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a constant velocity joint and a constant velocity joint outer ring capable of reducing the man-hour by reducing post-processing after the forging process, improving the yield, obtaining the rigidity of the constant velocity joint outer ring, and enabling practical application from a point of view of material quality, having no problem with respect to a short lived cutting tool when a groove of an outer ring outside diameter surface is processed. SOLUTION: In the constant velocity joint, carbon steel for machine structural use having carbon contents of 0.37 to 0.61 wt.% is subjected to hot forging or warm forging having an outer ring raw material forming process for forming the cup-shape outer ring raw material 1M enlarged gradually toward an opening end. The outer ring raw material 1M is subjected to cold forging having a cold forging process for specifying the surface hardness of the outside diameter surface in the cup portion 1a of the outer ring 1 in the range of 250 to 350 HV.
