PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To cancel adhesion of coal tar intervening between an outer edge of a furnace lid and a peripheral edge of an aperture of a furnace hole to smoothly perform removal of the furnace lid when the furnace lid is removed after a carbonization step. SOLUTION: Contraction operation of a horizontal movement cylinder 14a is performed for 2 sec to impart extraction force in a separated direction from the furnace hole 2a to the furnace lid 8. After the extraction force imparted to the furnace lid 8 is suspended for 1 sec, extension operation of the horizontal movement cylinder 14a is performed for 1 sec to impart pressing force in a direction toward the furnace hole 2a to the furnace lid 8. Second contraction operation of the horizontal movement cylinder 14a is then performed for 2 sec to impart extraction force in a direction separated from the furnace hole 2a to the furnace lid 8.
