<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a writing utensil with a clip which is not caught by the inner cloth etc. of a pocket, for example, when the writing utensil is taken out of the pocket. <P>SOLUTION: This writing utensil has an inwardly recessed bay 3 formed in the outer surface of a writing utensil body 1 which houses a refill 2. There is a clip fitting part 14 in the bay 3 and the clip 7 is pivoted at the clip fitting part 14. The clip 7 is of such a size that the whole of the clip 7 is nearly housed in the bay 3 when the writing utensil is not used.
