PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable terminal and a communication method which receive a communication channel of a base station which has been carried out position registration faster than before, when position registration to a new base station fails. SOLUTION: The portable terminal adopts a means preparing a communication unit which transceiver various signals with the base station, and a control unit. If the control unit fails the position registration to a first base station, it discriminates whether signal strength received by the communication unit from a second base station to which it has been carried out the position registration until now, is in a level which is possible to communicate, and if the signal strength of the second base station is discriminated to be in a level which is possible to communicate, it causes the communication unit to receive the communication channel of the second base station.
