PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driving method of cholesteric liquid crystal display element of which power consumption is reduced while avoiding deficiencies due to polarization of display material. SOLUTION: The display device includes: a dot matrix type display element 10 having a plurality of scan lines and a plurality of data lines; and driving circuits 28, 29 which drive the display elements, wherein the display elements include a plurality of sub-display line groups which are respectively formed with at least two scan lines, and the driving circuits continuously perform a first phase processing +P1, +P2 of performing writing of a first polarity by continuously scanning display lines in a sub-display line group and a second phase processing -P1, -P2 of performing the writing of the first polarity and a second polarity of reverse polarity by continuously scanning display lines in a sub-display line group.
