The illuminant (1) has a number of light sources (9) e.g. LED, for directional emission of light in a primary emission direction (41). Front plates (13) are made of opaque material and are simultaneously illuminated. Carrier plates (7) are made of light transparent material with opaque characteristics and are arranged between a planar reflector (11) i.e. film layer, and the front plates. The carrier plates include a number of openings (25) e.g. throughbores, in which the sources are arranged such that the primary emission direction is directed onto a light reflecting surface of the reflector.
