There is provided an impact protection structure (100) for providing impact energy absorption at a region substantially between a first transverse strengthening member (70) and a second substantially upright strengthening member (60) of a road vehicle (10). In operation, the first and second members (70, 60) are disposed substantially mutually perpendicularly. The impact protection structure (100) comprises an energy absorbing block arrangement (180. 190) and a cover arrangement (160, 170) for maintaining the absorbing block arrangement (180, 190) substantially in position during impact. In operation, the impact protection structure (150) is susceptible to reducing lateral damage to the road vehicle (10) in crash or impact situations, thereby potentially increasing passenger and driver safety. |
