PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alkaline storage battery equipped with a battery structure in which an increase of an opposed area does not lead to decrease of an actual reaction area, excellent in output characteristics, and with self-discharge characteristics improved. SOLUTION: A hydrogen storage alloy negative electrode 11 of the alkaline storage battery 10 is formed in a rectangular shape like a strip of fancy paper consisting of a major axis and a minor axis, with a ratio (A/B) of a length A(cm) of the major axis to that B(cm) of the minor axis of 20 or more and 30 or less (20≤A/B≤30), and at the same time, a ratio (X/Y) of a volume of electrolyte solution X(g) retained by the hydrogen storage alloy negative electrode 11 to that Y(g) retained by a separator 13 of 0.8 or more and 1.1 or less (0.8≤X/Y≤1.1). With this arrangement, an alkaline storage battery can be obtained which strikes a balance between high-output characteristics and long-term durability. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
