<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a planar light emitting unit that is thinned and miniaturized while guiding light emitted from an upper face and a side face of each emitter, efficiently into a light guide plate by embedding emitters in one end of the light guide plate. <P>SOLUTION: The planar light emitting unit 10 has the emitters 12 arranged at one end of the light guide plate 11.
