PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing toner preventing a dispersion defect of a colorant, deposition of a resin dissolved in a resin solution and the like, improving the characteristics of the toner, and producing the toner having a spherical and smooth surface. SOLUTION: The method for producing the toner includes: mixing at least a binder resin composed of a polyester resin and the colorant with an ester-based organic solvent to prepare a resin liquid; dispersing the resin liquid with an aqueous medium to prepare an emulsified liquid; and removing the ester-based organic solvent from the emulsified liquid. In this method, 1wt% or more water below the saturation solubility with respect to the ester-based organic solvent at 25°C is incorporated into the ester-based organic solvent prior to the preparation of the resin liquid.
