PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transfer material separation device capable of more surely separating a transfer material that is difficult to separate. SOLUTION: The transfer material separation device includes: a transfer material moving member (intermediate transfer belt 4) where a transfer material 8 on which a liquid developer image is to be transferred is press-contacted, and which moves together with the transfer material 8; a flexible transfer material separating member 21 for separating the leading end of the transfer material 8 moving together with the transfer material moving member from the transfer material moving member; and a transfer material separating member operating mechanism (rotary-linear motion mechanism 28) for making the transfer material separating member 21 enter between the leading end part of the transfer material 8 and the transfer material moving member upon separating the transfer material 8.
