PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means for preventing a staff from having to make confirmation work of residual bills on a feeder path, because of incorrect counting of the number of accumulated bills. SOLUTION: The bills fed to a bill return unit 5 and accumulation units 7a-7e are detected by an overlaid feed detection sensor 15a and overlaid feed detection sensors 15d-15h, so that the number of bills is counted, and on detection of the bills fed in an overlaid manner, the detected bills are counted as two; the total number of bills detected by the overlaid feed detection sensors 15a, 15d-15h is compared with the number of bills counted by a bill discrimination unit 4; and when the total number of bills detected by the overlaid feed detection sensors 15a, 15d-15h is smaller, a screen urging inspection of a feeder path 3 is displayed on a display and operation unit 17.
