PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device where the local excessive temperature rise of a fixing rotator is suppressed without interrupting the reduction of a warm-up time, and also, without interrupting the effective use of heat energy, and toner image fixing processing is satisfactorily carried out corresponding to various recording medium sizes, and to provide an image forming apparatus equipped with the fixing device. SOLUTION: The fixing device 7 includes: the fixing rotator 71; a pressure rotator 72; right and left heater lamps H11 and H12 for heating the fixing rotator 71; wherein a recording medium P carrying a toner image is made to pass through a nip portion between both rotators so as to fix the toner image on the recording medium P. The heater lamps H11 and H12 have heat distribution to gradually reduce radiation from the left to the right and from the right to the left, respectively, and have the same change in radiation. both heater lamps H11 and H12 are adjustable in terms of its relative position so that the portions having the large radiation may come close to each other or may separate from each other.
