PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a fiber laser device enabling a high-average output by the on/off-control of excitation light while suppressing relaxation oscillation generated in the case of a rise of a laser pulse beam while enabling the waveform control of the laser pulse beam, and a control method. SOLUTION: A controller 10 causes driving power supplies 6a and 6b for the oscillation section 1 to supply semiconductor lasers 5a and 5b for an oscillation section 1 with a driving current to until an excitation state in an optical fiber 3a for the oscillation section 1 is brought to the state of a laser-oscillation threshold. The controller discretely controls the driving power supplies 6a and 6b for the oscillation section 1 and the driving power supplies 6c and 6d for an amplification section 2, and controls the current value of the driving current supplied to the corresponding semiconductor laser and a supply time for the current value.
