The collector (1) has channels (20) arranged between an inlet and an outlet. A passage side (2) is permeable for solar radiations and is arranged opposite to an absorber side, where the sides are heat-conductively connected with walls of the channels. The channels have single-piece formed twin wall plates (5) with cover plates (17) running at a distance to each other and bars (19) for connecting the cover plates, where each channel is limited by the bars and a section of the cover plates. The twin wall plates are made of transparent or translucent plastic material e.g. polycarbonate. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a solar collector.
