A red phosphor for a display device is provided to ensure short residual decay time and excellent color coordinate property and to be used for a display device. A red phosphor for a display device comprises a compound represented by chemical formula 1: (Y_(1-x1)M_(x1))_(2-y1)O_3:Eu_(y1). In chemical formula 1, M is an element selected from the group consisting of Gd, La, Sc, Lu and their combination; and 0.00 <= x1 <= 0.8, 0.025 <= y1 <= 0.20. The red phosphor further includes an element selected from the group consisting of Pr, Sm, Dy, Tm and their combination as a co-activator.
