Provided is a pharmaceutical composition formulated to generate in the recipient organism a protective response against infections caused by bacteria from the Neisseria genus wherein the composition comprises a protein which comprises a specified amino acid sequence from the Neisseria genome. Further provided are uses of the protein and corresponding gene in the diagnosis of meningococcal disease in humans.
