Use of lanthanide to reduce digestibility of phosphorus in animal nutrition

Disclosed is the use of lanthanum carbonate or a hydrate thereof in the preparation of a cat or dog food additive for reducing the digestibility of phosphorus contained in animal feeds. Further disclosed are methods of reducing the digestibility of phosphorus in animal feeds of cats or dogs by administering an effective amount of lanthanum carbonate or a hydrate thereof to a cat or dog.
