PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an SPR (surface plasmon resonance) sensor chip suitable for miniaturization, and an SPR sensor using it. SOLUTION: A diffraction lattice surface 6 is formed on the surface of a metal film 4 or in the vicinity thereof. The diffraction lattice surface 6 can produce surface plasmon resonance on the metal film 4 by the incident light diffracted by the diffraction lattice surface 6. A pitch altering part 10 alters the pitch of the lattices in the diffraction lattice surface 6. Since it is unnecessary to individually prepare the diffraction lattice surface having various intervals, the miniaturization of the chip becomes possible.
