<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of generating a quick and flexible automatic response. <P>SOLUTION: A computer responds to a message from a user by using a graphic structure of an expanded semantic network that can represent a relationship between an optional state belonging to a set of knowledge structures and an operation to thereby be able to quickly perform a response corresponding to the message from the user and flexibly perform construction and addition of a knowledge structure. By constructing a discourse structure in the knowledge structure to handle a dialogue based on a natural language and further constructing a following structure, a new element can be generated from elements of a knowledge structure that has been already stored.
