PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flat foldable umbrella which can be folded into a further thinner and smaller shape while ensuring strength. SOLUTION: In this flat foldable umbrella 1a, under an umbrella opened state, a main rib 20 and a receiving rib 40 radially open. In the meantime, under an umbrella closed state, the main ribs (20, 70 and 80) and the receiving rib are gathered while being parted to both right and left sides of runners (2 and 10), and the flat foldable umbrella 1a is folded into a flat approximately rectangular parallelepiped shape. The base main rib and the receiving rib become a flat bar shape which radially extends from a central bar 3 under the umbrella opened state. At the same time, the wider surfaces (23 and 32) of the flat bar shape are orthogonal to an umbrella fabric 5, and a lower connecting rod 40 consisting of two pieces of thinner bars (40a and 40b) is connected in a manner to pinch the receiving rib in the thickness direction. Under the umbrella closed state, the lower connecting rod is focused in a manner to go along both sides in the extending direction of the receiving rib which is connected with the lower connecting rod for the flat foldable umbrella.
