<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To expand a service area capable of obtaining the localization effect of a virtual sound image when virtual surround reproduction is performed only by a speaker of two front channels. <P>SOLUTION: The deterioration of the localization feeling of the sound image accompanied by the position deviation of a listener is caused by the generation of a difference in a frequency characteristic concerning the synthetic sound of an output sound from each speaker at each ear position of the listener. The difference of the characteristic is caused by the disturbance of a frequency characteristic which appears only on a high frequency side by defining a certain origin frequency defined corresponding to the deviated position as a boundary. An input audio signal is divided into a signal on the low frequency side and a signal on the high frequency side by the use of a cut-off frequency which is determined based on a frequency where the disturbance of the characteristic starts to appear. The signal on the low frequency side is outputted in advance, and the signal on the high frequency side is successively outputted with a delay. By the advance sound effect, the localization feeling of the sound image is dominantly given by a low frequency side signal component which is outputted in advance where the characteristic disturbance is not generated.
