PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which suppresses influence due to irregular sensitivity of a photoreceptor and an S-D Gap and which achieves improvement of quality of an image by a test patch without increasing manufacture cost of the photoreceptor and a developer carrier. SOLUTION: Based on information from a photoreceptor phase detection means for detecting a phase of the photoreceptor 31 from a reference position determined in advance and a developer carrier phase detection means for detecting a phase of the developer carrier 62 in a developing device 33 from a reference position determined in advance, the test patch image is formed on a predetermined position of the photoreceptor 31 by using developer carried on a predetermined position of the developer carrier 62, and then the density of the test patch image is detected by a patch image density detection means 70.
