<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lateral electric field mode liquid crystal display device capable of easily eliminating, by an electric action, a change in an alignment state caused by a lengthwise stress applied from the outside during displaying. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device includes a pair of substrates, a liquid crystal 3 held in the gap therebetween, electrodes P formed on one of the substrates, and a driving means for applying to the liquid crystal a lateral electric field along the surface direction of the substrate via the electrodes P, and controls the alignment state of the liquid crystal 3 by the lateral electric field to display. The liquid crystal 3 has a characteristic to change the alignment state depending on the lengthwise stress applied from the outside along the thickness direction of the substrates. The driving means applies to the liquid crystal 3 a lateral electric field for recovering lower than a lateral electric field for displaying which is usually applied to display, for a limited period during displaying to recover the change in the alignment state of the liquid crystal 3. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT</p> |
