PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric camera capable of making camera settings in accordance with a photographic scene determined before photographing. SOLUTION: The electronic camera 1 is provided with: an image pickup element 22; a distance measurement means 18; a first calculating means 11 for calculating the feature amount based on the pixel density of an image acquired by the image pickup element 22 before an instruction of photographing and the distance measurement information acquired by the distance measurement means 18 before the instruction of photographing; a second calculating means 11 for selecting a feature amount group closest to the feature amount calculated by the first calculating means 11 from a plurality of feature amount groups previously classified in a space indicating a feature amount; a third calculating means 11 for determining a photographic scene corresponding to the feature amount group selected by the second calculating means 11; and a control means 11 for making camera settings corresponding to the determined photographic scene.
