Novel pasty masses used as insert material for widening the gingival sulcus are described. Said retraction materials comprise a paste-forming agent, superabsorber particles and at least one astringent. It was surprising that in the case of liquid contact with such a retraction material paste formula, on the one hand, an increase in volume is caused by absorbed liquid and, on the other hand, part of the superabsorber is diffused and/or dissolved out of the paste and that the result of said diffused or dissolved portion is that adjacent liquid, such as saliva, blood and wound secretion is promptly thickened, bound and/or coagulated, supporting both hemostasis and a widening of the sulcus. |
