<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inter-vehicle distance maintenance supporting device and an inter-vehicle distance maintenance support method, capable of surely calling driver's attention by an accelerator pedal reaction force, even when accelerator operated amount is small. <P>SOLUTION: A first inter-vehicle distance threshold and a second inter-vehicle distance threshold are computed, based on the situation of an obstacle existing in front of own vehicle, and a reaction force generated by the accelerator pedal 72 is determined, based on the first inter-vehicle distance threshold and a positional relationship between the own vehicle and the obstacle. A relation between a depressed amount of the accelerator pedal and a generated amount of engine torque is corrected in a decreasing direction, based on the second inter-vehicle distance threshold and a positional relation between own vehicle and the obstacle. When an output amount of engine torque is corrected and decreased, the depressed amount of the accelerator pedal becomes larger than the amount of the normal operation by a driver. Thus, more sure attention can be given to the driver, even when urging a driver to implement a proper operation by controlling an operation reaction force of the accelerator pedal 72 in the case that an inter-vehicle distance to a preceding vehicle falls below the first inter-vehicle distance threshold. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT</p> |
