PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester dispersant for use in preparing a pigment dispersion having excellent dispersibility, excellent fluidity, and excellent storage stability, with a small consumption of the dispersant, and to provide a pigment dispersion that forms a coating film showing slight weight loss and slight decrease of contrast when used in such applications as resist ink for a color filter, printing ink, and ink-jet printing ink each requiring heat resistance in a subsequent process in particular. SOLUTION: The polyester dispersant alternately includes polyol segments (A) and polycarboxylic acid segments (B), which polyester is prepared by causing a hydroxyl group of a polyol (a) to react with an acid anhydride group of a carboxylic acid anhydride (b), with some or all of the polyol segments (A) individually bound via a sulfur (S) atom to a vinyl polymer segment (C) having a glass transition temperature of at least 50°C prepared by the radical polymerization of an ethylenically unsaturated monomer (c).
