摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus that exactly measures the liquid crystal response time by performing an intensity measurement of transmitted light, even when the voltage dependence of the intensity of the transmitted light is in a nonlinear zone, in a measurement zone of the liquid crystal response time. SOLUTION: The apparatus for measuring the liquid crystal response time includes: a laser light source for emitting a light beam; a polarizer for transmitting a linearly polarized component of the light beam emitted by the laser light source and supplying the light beam to a liquid crystal element to be measured; an analyzer which is disposed on the light beam emission side of the liquid crystal element to be measured and transmits the linearly polarized component of the light beam in its polarized state transformed by the liquid crystal element to be measured; and a light receiving element for detecting the transmission light intensity of the light beam passing through the analyzer, thereby measuring the liquid crystal response time of the liquid crystal element to be measured. Furthermore, the apparatus includes a phase modulation liquid crystal element which is disposed between the polarizer and the liquid crystal element to be measured or between the liquid crystal element to be measured and the analyzer, in order to add an offset phase difference to a phase difference of the liquid crystal element to be measured.
