PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method of adjusting core height, dispensing with adjustment of core height for every replacement of a bite to largely shorten a total working time. SOLUTION: A Y-directional distance d1 between a measurement reference plane 17 and a laser light emission region 24 of a sensor 3 is measured by using a micrometer 19 during off-line setup, and a Y-directional distance d2 between the plane 17 and a blade edge 28 of the bite is measured by using a micrometer 21. A difference d3 between the Y-directional distances d1 and d2 corresponds to a correction amount of the position of a tool rest when adjusting the core height of the bite in a machine tool for machining.
