A display apparatus and a method of driving the same are provided to realize uniform gray scale and improve image quality in regardless of the chromaticity of a back light assembly by correcting the gray scale of an original data. A display apparatus(601) is composed of a back light assembly(100), a sensor unit(400), a display panel(200), a gray scale correction unit(501), and a data driver(310). A sensing unit senses the intensity of radiation and the chromaticity of the black light assembly and generates sensing information. A display panel receives the light and display image in response to gray scale voltage, and a gray scale correction unit receives original data of M bits and corrects it with gray scale correction, and then output a first correction data of N bits.
