<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust emission control device for an internal combustion engine that sufficiently mixes additive and exhaust gas together even when a distance required for mixing is not secured between an additive injection valve and a catalyst. <P>SOLUTION: The exhaust emission control device for the internal combustion engine includes a throttle part 30 provided in an exhaust pipe portion between a bent portion 15a and the catalyst 5, and the additive injection valve 23 provided on the upstream side of the throttle part 30 for supplying the additive to the catalyst 5. In this construction, the additive injected from the additive injection valve 23 is quickly mixed with exhaust gas with the turbulent flow of the exhaust gas generated between the bent portion 15a and the throttle part 30. The additive is mixed with the exhaust gas both when the exhaust gas passes through the throttle part 30 and when the exhaust gas is blown from the throttle part 30 while being diffused.
