The stage has two connections (5.H, 5.L) provided for ignition units and switching units (1-4) connected in series at each of the two connections for the ignition units. Common electrical junctions (KH, KL) are provided in series to the switching units on two turned away sides with respect to the ignition units. A controllable current sink (IS) is provided between the switching units (1, 2) on a side turned to a supply voltage (UH). A controllable power source (IQ) is arranged between the switching units (3, 4) on a side turned to a reference potential (UL). An independent claim is also included for a method for function testing of the ignition stage.
