[Also in Group XX] A hygroscopic element, which may be of a synthetic fibre, controls the movement of a double pointer 5, 6, Fig. 1, over two identical but relatively displaced weather scales 3, 4, of which the upper scale is framed in red and the lower in blue. A disc 9, Fig. 2, having one half coloured red and the other blue is movable, between stops 10 and 10<SP>1</SP>, behind a window 2a in the coverplate 2 by means of a linkage 8 and friction clutch 12 operated by a barometric capsule 7. The arrangement is such that the red part of the disc 9 shows in the aperture 2a when the barometer is falling and the blue part shows when it is rising, the weather being read in accordance with the barometric tendency on the scale 3 or 4 framed in the corresponding colour. The pointer 5 is to be used when the wind is easterly and the pointer 6 when it is westerly. In another embodiment one scale is provided which is relatively displaced in accordance with the tendency of the air pressure to rise or fall and in another embodiment, the linkage operated on by the barometric capsule imparts the displacement required to the pointer system 5, 6 instead of to the weather scale which is fixed.
