<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To thin a light-emitting device. <P>SOLUTION: The side emitter type light-emitting device 1 has a light-emitting element 12, a translucent member 13, and a light-emitting member 14. The translucent member 13 is provided on the light-emitting element 12 and has the interface of a first part 13-1 and a second part 13-2. The second part 13-2 is positioned outside the first part 13-1 and has a refractive index larger than that of the first part 13-1.
