<p>The present invention relates to a process for making a mineral melt comprising
providing a circulating combustion chamber (25)
transporting solid particulate fuel along a fuel conduit (1) and injecting the solid particulate fuel into the combustion chamber through a fuel inlet,
injecting particulate mineral material into the combustion chamber through a mineral material inlet (7),
injecting combustion gas into the combustion chamber through a first gas inlet (3),
mixing the fuel with the combustion gas and combusting the fuel to form a flame,
thereby melting the mineral material to form a mineral melt and hot exhaust gases,
separating the hot exhaust gases from the melt and collecting the melt,
and wherein the solid particulate fuel is not entrained in gas as it is injected through the fuel inlet and wherein the fuel and combustion gas are mixed by the provision of a stream of secondary gas through a second gas inlet (8) which is adjacent the fuel inlet, wherein the secondary gas comprises at least 25% oxygen O 2 and not more than 75% nitrogen N 2 ,
and wherein the process includes substantially preventing gas entering the fuel conduit (1). The invention further relates to an apparatus.</p> |
