APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR EFFICIENTLY GENERATING OVSF CODE USING 2-STAGE SCHEME IN WIRELESS COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

An apparatus and a method for generating an OVSF(Orthogonal Variable Spreading Factor) code are provided to generate a long OVSF code by hierarchically applying a second step diffusion method to generate one long code word with the maximum length of 2L from a single code index of the length of (L+1). A zero counter(110) counts the number of zeros until one is shown in one direction of an input code index of a binary type. An index decomposer(120) generates a first code index and a second code index using the code of a least significant bit from the position of one to the one direction according to the number of zeros. A first code generator generates a first code word from a first code index. A second code generator generates a second code word from the second code index. A code combiner(150) generates the final code word having the value obtained by multiplying the length of the first code word by the length of the second code word.
