PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ignition timing control system of an internal combustion engine which prevents the occurrence of knocking or the like under a transient operation state caused by insufficient learning of an ignition timing model. SOLUTION: The control device is equipped with an initial ignition timing model which is adapted so as to make a combustion condition index value (an 8°combustion rate MFB8) substantially agree with a target combustion state index value, acquires an after-learning ignition timing model by correcting the initial ignition timing control model so as to reduce a difference between an actual combustion state index value and the target combustion state index value, and executes ignitions at the initial ignition timing SAin based on the initial ignition timing model when the after-learning ignition timing model is brought close to the initial ignition timing model through the learning of the ignition timing model based on the combustion state index value and at the after-learning ignition timing SAgk based on the after-learning ignition timing model when the after-learning ignition timing model is moved away from the initial ignition timing therethrough, when acquiring the actual combustion state index value under a transient operation state in the transient operation state.
