PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a door closing apparatus for a sliding door which is easily installed and is post-installed on the sliding door. SOLUTION: The door closing apparatus for the sliding door has a latch member (12) mounted on a frame body, a slide member (18) extending in the opening/closing direction of the sliding door, and a guide member (20) and a spring force accumulating device (24) which are mounted on the sliding door (D). When the sliding door D is opened, the slide member is latched by the latch member (12) through a trigger member (30), and the spring force accumulating device accumulates spring force in an inside spring since the pinion (26) rolls on the rack teeth (16) of the slide member. When the sliding door opens with a specified opened width, the latched state of the slide member (18) is released and moves with the sliding door since the relative movement with the guide member is blocked by the trigger member (30). When the sliding door is closed and approaches a closed position, the slide member is latched to the latch member through the trigger member (30). The pinion rolls on the rack of the slide member relative to the latched slide member by the spring force of the spring force accumulating device, and accordingly the sliding door is returned to the closed position.
