PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel injector malfunction detecting apparatus having improved accuracy in determining an injection malfunction. SOLUTION: The fuel injector malfunction detecting apparatus is provided with a pause control means for executing pause control to prevent input of an injection command signal to a specific injector during operation of a multi-cylinder engine; and with a state change detection means for detecting change in the engine state caused by the execution of the pause control. Thus, when the pause control is executed for a normal injector, the engine state is changed largely. In contrast, when the pause control is executed for an injector in which a non-injection malfunction has occurred, injection of only fuel which is not normally injected originally is stopped, and thus the engine state is scarcely changed. Therefore, by sequentially executing the pause control for the plurality of injectors, it can be determined that the fuel injector of which the state is scarcely changed is malfunctioning in injection.
