Provided is a fuel cell system which can execute an appropriate current limit even when lowering the cell voltage by a rapid warm-up. When a rapid warm-up is started, allowable cell voltage setting unit (80c) sets a lowest allowable cell voltage value in accordance with the operation state of the fuel cell. On the other hand, a target cell voltage value setting unit (80d) sets an initial value of the target lowest cell voltage value. After this, the target cell voltage value setting unit (80d) compares a lowest cell voltage detected by a cell monitor to the set target lowest cell voltage value so as to judge whether the lowest cell voltage is continuously converged in the vicinity of the target lowest cell voltage value for a predetermined period of time. If yes, the target cell voltage value setting unit (80d) updates the target lowest cell voltage value Vth by lowering the value by ?V.
