<p>#CMT# #/CMT# The device (10) has a cylinder (20) arranged in a housing (16). A piston (22) forms permanent magnets (26), and is pivoted between a rest position and an operating position in the cylinder. The piston lies or lies close to a cylinder base in the operating position. A workpiece (12) is contacted by the base. An energy generator, an energy storage (52) and sensors (38, 40, 42) are provided, where the generator is a solar cell, induction generator, heat or vibration transducer, piezo element or a turbine. The sensors detect position and presence of the workpiece and the piston. #CMT# : #/CMT# The sensors can be selected from the group consisting of a contactless or tactile sensor, switch, temperature sensor, pressure sensor, flow sensor, capacitive sensor or inductive sensor. #CMT#USE : #/CMT# Device for gripping and retaining of a workpiece i.e. sheet plate, by pneumatically movable permanent magnets. #CMT#ADVANTAGE : #/CMT# The sensors determine whether the workpiece is gripped by the device or not in a simple manner.
